Starting 2025 off strong, a new Lain garage kit has just been announced!
Created by sculptor Ayumu Hamano, this garage kit is set to release at WonderFest 2025, on February 9th. The figure is set to cost 15,000円 (~$97 USD at the time of writing), and will be sold in-person at the event.
Future mail order sales are being considered, but due to various circumstances, Ayumu is currently unsure whether or not this will be possible. (Source)
This announcement has me extremely excited – According to MyFigureCollection, it has been 20 years since another Serial Experiments Lain garage kit was made!
Before this new kit by Ayumu, the most recent Lain garage kit release was by the group Grifons’ Garden, way back in February of 2005.
While Grifons’ Garden released a number of Lain garage kits in the early 2000’s, these kits have become quite expensive. Finding an unpainted (and unbroken) garage kit is quite a rarity, with only one to two being listed each year, if any. Prices commonly reaching north of $300 USD each at auction, weeding at all but the most hardcore (and wealthy…) of fans.
However, back to the present: This beautiful new garage kit will certainly be a staple in any Lain collection, and I’m quite excited to try acquiring one once they’re released.
